Every two months there will now be a vegan market in Bedford. This is fantastic news because it will give the chance for new and established vegan businesses to grow, flourish and connect with more customers!
I had a mooch around yesterday’s market and as usual there was an array of ingenious food, beautiful products and lovely people.
Guilda Akopians, the organiser of the markets and owner of Virtuoso Foods is giving Greggs a serious run for their money with her shortcrust AND puff pastry sausage rolls. I had to try one and they are DELICIOUS! There was also lots of cake and the flavours included the brilliantly unusual caramel and biscotti, delicious cherry bakewell and must-have chocolate. There were also lots of other treats, my favourite being the yumtastic Viennese Whirls. Follow Virtuoso Foods: Insta: @virtuosofoods Facebook: @virtuosofoodsbedford
Taking about wonderful flavours, the hot cross bun power balls – can you spot them?!! – made by Janna at Little Gem’s Kitchen (Insta: @Littlegemskitchen, Twitter: @ljkitchen) were something I’d never tried before and they tasted fabulous with all of the lovely spices. I relished the relished too – the peach relish is a new and unusual addition and the Rudolf relish goes amazingly with the peppery vegan brie that I got from The Broken Spoon.
As well as the brie, which is dreamy on rye crackers, I tried the Sunshine Box – a filling, nutritious and delicious salad mix – and lemon drizzle cake – moist and tangy – to balance it out! The Broken Spoons are a talented team 🙂 Follow them on: Facebook: @thebrokenspoons, Insta: @thebrokenspoons
After all of that cake and food, my thoughts turned to exercise and how to work it all off! There is an inspiring company – Body and Mind Reboot that offers fitness retreats in the Bedfordshire countryside, so if you want some motivation, support and momentum to get fit you should contact the team. Not only is their business going from strength to strength (literally!), they’re celebrating being finalists in the National Best New Business Awards too! Kai Craft sells handmade products such as sweet smelling soap, bath bombs, shampoos bars, candles and jewellery. In particular, the soap and shampoo bars are really great if you’re trying to cut down on plastic consumption. I got the patchouli, lavender and rosemary soap which smells absolutely divine and there are always new combinations being tried out.
